Bringing the Vision to Life: A Cold Day, Cool Vibes, and Great Photos

Behind the Shoot: Edgy Fashion Vibes in Tallinn

This shoot idea? It’s been on my mind for months. I wanted to create something bold, edgy, and fashion-forward—but, as usual, the weather in Estonia and a few last-minute changes made it a bit of a waiting game. Still, I was set on making it happen.

This year, I'm focusing on growth: one themed photoshoot every month in 2025. It’s a personal challenge to push my creativity, learn new techniques, and keep developing as a photographer.

The Prep: Putting the Vision Together

Good photos start with good prep. For this shoot, I put together a moodboard to capture the kind of edgy city vibe I was going for. It helped me stay focused and made it easier to communicate the concept.

Finding the right model was just as important. I started the search a couple of months in advance because I wanted someone who fit the look and feel I had in mind. After some time, I found the perfect model—and fun fact, this was actually her first ever shoot with a photographer. We had a great chat before the shoot to go over the concept and make sure she felt comfortable. She really brought the energy I was hoping for.

Scouting Adventures in Tallinn

The day before the shoot, I traveled from Tartu to Tallinn to scout locations. After about five hours of walking around the city, I found exactly what I needed:

  1. Top Floor of a Parking Garage: The view of the high-rise buildings gave us that strong urban vibe.

  2. The Elevator: As soon as I saw the clean metallic surfaces, I knew it would add a sharp, modern contrast.

  3. Rottermanni Kvartal: A great spot with interesting textures and a stylish backdrop to round things out.

Shoot Day: Cold but Productive

On shoot day, the weather decided to remind us it’s still Estonia—chilly and a bit uncomfortable, which meant we had to keep things short. But despite the cold, we made it work and got some great results at every location.

I always prefer shooting on location when possible. It adds something unique to every session that you just can’t replicate in a studio.

Reflections

Each shoot teaches me something new. This time, it was a reminder of how important preparation is—but also how staying flexible can lead to unexpected wins. It was also great seeing a first-time model bring so much confidence to the shoot.
